QUICK VIDEO TIP FROM DEAN
Thinking SLOWS DECISIONS
Are you and your Team hearing:
“I NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT?”
from the people that YOU need to get to yes?
THINKING SLOWS DECISIONS.
When people are thinking they are not deciding.
Roughly 80% of the mass of the brain
is involved with THINKING…
that part of the brain is called the neocortex.
It is the outside of the brain–
the part that “looks like” a brain…
the wrinkly, pinky part.
It is the part of the brain that “thinks”–
it uses energy to process and make sense
of words and numbers–
all rational thinking happens there.
Our species is called “homo sapiens sapiens”
(Latin for “the one WHO THINKS he THINKS”…
and that really is us–
we are the ones who “think” we think…LOL!)
And this part of the brain is involved in decisions
in that it will SLOW DOWN decisions.
Let me repeat:
When humans are thinking
they are not deciding.
If you want to slow down decisions,
give people a lot to think about:
make it 42 PowerPoint slides,
give them multiple options…
and use a lot of words and numbers.
Maybe have an attorney and an engineer
add a few more pages for you…
(I hope my attorney and engineer friends
are laughing now.)
But if you want to speed up decisions
If you want to get to yes faster,
start by eliminating the thinking
that people have to do
before saying yes to you.
Make your message Simple.
Your weekly application questions
- Who do you need a YES from in the coming week or month?
- How can you make your message more SIMPLE?
- How can you cut in half the THINKING they must do?
Ask this question in your preparation:
“What are the
…first three things
…they must do
…BEFORE they can say YES to us?”
Can YOU and YOUR TEAM
…of those things
…for them this week?
WRITE IT DOWN NOW AND PLEASE DO IT.
